April 22 marks the anniversary of Earth Day first observed in 1970.

Many consider this the birth of the modern environmental movement, but I’m not sure that the movement is moving ahead as well as we had hoped.

Did you know it was Earth Day today? Did you mark it or participate in some way?  I’m not blaming you. I think of myself as tuned in to the environment, but I forgot about it until yesterday, and I didn’t plan to do anything significant today to mark the day.

We use the earth’s resources and Earth Day asks us to think about giving back for that use.

“True life is lived when tiny changes occur.” – Leo Tolstoy

Awareness leads to change. Mindfulness has many forms including being mindful of what we buy, use, and discard.

I love those full Moons but this is also a New Moon which is a new beginning.

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any–lifted from the no
of all nothing–human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

e.e. cummings
